H & H Photopano book review

h&h photo pano book reviewDoing a quick review on a sample album I just ordered for one of my vendors. This is a Photopano book from H&H color lab. I have been interested in a thinner coffee table style book. A quick description about this book. It is a coffee table style book with magazine pages. It uses traditional photographic prints for pages instead of a press print. It comes with the option for a glossy or matted  wrap-around cove.

The Cover: The printing on these is really nice. I opted for the matted finish because I am not a fan of gloss. The colors and dynamic range on the cover are spot on. Really a fan of this cover. Cons about the cover is that they don’t offer this any other options for this particular style book. If you want a leather, or cloth cover you will have to look at one of their more expensive albums or one of their press printed book.

The pages are offered only in lustre so people who want a deep matte or glossy are out of luck. The lustre is a nice finish though and I prefer it for %95 of my prints. Again these are photographic prints, not press printed paper. If you are wondering I did my own design.

Here is a shot of the page thickness. Even though these are rather thin they do have a nice thick feel to them. I would possibly worry about these bending a bit. Especially with the sharp corners on the edges. I also prefer thicker pages because most of uses I would have for these books (newborn, parent albums, etc.) only have 20 pages or so which can look pretty small. (sample album is 24 pages (12 spreads).

These albums are full spread books. There is no gutter so feel free to design using full page spreads instead of single pages. This is my preferred album style.

Conclusion:
Pros:
-Great print quality
-Photographic paper in a true thin paged coffee table book
-Nice photowrap cover
-Full spread/flush design
-Priced similarly to competitive products like WHCC press printed albums (review coming)
-Quick turn around time.
-Free shipping
-H&H gives your $50 credit when you sign up with them 😉

Cons:
-No substrate leading to thinner floppy pages.
-Solid but not substantial feel. Thicker pages would help.

To sum up I am highly impressed by the quality of this book. However I do not think I will be using this particular book for my customers. Nothing again this BOOK, but I prefer ALBUMS with thicker pages for their substantial feel and their durability. H&H or course realizes this and does offer their Photo Cover Album, This book is, from what I can tell, the same product but with the beautiful thicker pages. This comes at a premium as it is about twice expensive.

I hope this helps.
